COVID-19 Updates

To the Beauty Community,

As the world continues to respond and follow the COVID-19 outbreak, the most common question is, “what is the government providing to support Canadian businesses affected by COVID-19?”

To show our continued support to our valued clients, we would like to bring to your attention the expansion of the Small and Medium Enterprise Relaunch Grant program. Following the recently released provincial government announcement offering financial assistance to Alberta businesses, cooperatives, and non-profit organizations with fewer than 500 employees that faced restrictions or closures from public health orders. The goal of this extension is to restore employment to pre-pandemic levels and create more jobs.

As of December 14, 2020, small businesses who have experienced a 30% or more revenue loss to the COVID-19 pandemic will qualify for the program and can receive up to $20,000. This 30% threshold will be available to impacted businesses retroactive to March. Alberta businesses affected by the public health orders in effect from November 6, 2020, and later will also be eligible to apply for a second payment through the program.

To be eligible, an Alberta business, cooperative or non-profit organization must meet all of the following:

  • Be a legal entity in Alberta (listed in the link below)
  • Maintain a permanent establishment in Alberta and be established (and in good standing) under at least one of the above acts/legislation
  • Be carrying on business/operations or were eligible to carry on business/operations in Alberta on February 29, 2020
  • Have less than 500 employees (full time, part-time, and contract combined)
  • Have been ordered to temporarily close or curtail operations through a COVID-19 public health order
  • Have experienced a reduction in revenue of at least 40% in April and/or May 2020 in comparison to April 2019, May 2019, or February 2020 as a result of the public health orders
  • Are open or plan to reopen as public health orders are lifted through Alberta’s phased relaunch
  • Have not received any payments, grants, or amounts directly from federal or provincial government sources or insurance to replace or compensate for the loss of revenue, except certain assistance programs (listed in the link below)

  • Although you are not able to offer personal and wellness services, you can operate your retail business at 15% of fire code occupancy or a minimum of 5 clients, whichever is higher
  • Increase your social media posts to stay connected with your clients
  • Offer to sell gift cards for your clients to use when it is safe to re-open
  • Encourage your clients to pre-book their appointment to make the most of your reopening
  • Offer online/virtual consultations or tutorials to your clients
  • Emphasize the importance of supporting your local business

We have made some adjustments to our COVID-19 store procedures. Please take the time to read below, so you are familiar with the procedures prior to your next visit:

  • Please DO NOT visit our stores if: 
          - You are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms including fever, cough, sore throat, difficulty breathing and/or runny nose
          - You have been in close contact with a probable or positive COVID-19 case
          - You have been advised to self-isolate for any reason including recent
    outside of Canada
  • Limit personal belongings brought into the store
  • Only touch items you intend on purchasing, make a list ahead of time by visiting ModernBeauty.com
  • We recommend wearing a face mask or covering
  • Utilize the hand sanitizer available upon entry
  • Maintain a distance of 2m / 6 ft (3 square tiles)
  • Payment with VISA, Mastercard, Debit is preferred
  • Each client can enter with only one guest, as there is a store limit of 20 people

We will continue to offer in-store pickup on orders placed via the website. At checkout click “In-Store Pickup” to choose the location you would like to pick up from. We will call you within 24 hours* of your order for pickup. 
*In-Store Pickup may take over 24 hours on orders made on weekends or holidays.

To the Beauty Community,

In light of updated information on the transmission of COVID, we have updated our policies for returns, exchanges and defective replacements.

As of Friday, June 19th, any items that qualify for an exchange or defective replacement between March 24th and June 26th will be accepted prior to Friday, July 10th. Following July 10th, we will no longer accept exchanges or defective replacements on expired policy periods.

Modern Beauty will not be accepting returns or exchanges on any final sale items including, but not limited to, alcohol, applicator/spray bottles, cleaning/disinfecting products, hand sanitizer, face shields, masks, gloves, capes, towels, or tint bowls/brushes.
All items that are taken back, that fall under the updated policy, will be disinfected prior to being put back on our shelves. This is to ensure the continued safety and health of our loyal clients and dedicated employees.

  • Maintain a distance of 2m/6 ft away from others to maintain social distancing

In light of the challenges posed by COVID-19, we’ve adjusted our policies to ensure we're able to protect the safety of our loyal clients & dedicated employees. As such, we are not currently accepting returns and exchanges or doing defective replacements.

If your return, exchange or defective replacement policy period expired after March 24th, we’re extending the policy to 21 days after it is considered safe, by the provincial government, to lift social distancing precautions at your local store. After 21 days of resuming normal business operations, we will no longer accept returns, exchanges or defective replacements on expired policy periods.

Modern Beauty will not be accepting returns or exchanges on the following: alcohol, applicator/spray bottles, cleaning/disinfecting products, hand sanitizer, face shields, masks, gloves, capes, towels, or tint bowls/brushes.

As all of our thoughts are on the COVID-19 situation, we wanted to share an update on how Modern Beauty is responding. The health and safety of our community, including our loyal clients and dedicated employees, is always of the utmost importance to us, and we recognize that our clients depend on us and require our products to serve their customers.

Across all stores, offices & warehouses, we have implemented the following measures:

  • Regularly disinfecting all high-touch areas, including doors, carts, and registers
  • Encouraging our employees to participate in social-distancing measures, as recommended by our provincial and federal governments
  • Ensuring our employees are educated on how to perform adequate and regular hand hygiene, as well as increasing accessibility of hand sanitizers

In an effort to protect the community, we have adjusted our Monday to Friday store hours to 9:30AM - 4:30PM, excluding Calgary Head Office and Edmonton West. We recommend calling our stores ahead of time to prepare your orders prior to your arrival, for an express pick-up service.
